A forensic psychiatrist is able to evaluate certain aspects of a legal case and provide medical opinion on specific questions posed by members of the legal system.
Civil vs. Criminal Cases
A civil case is a legal dispute between two or more parties and is the “non-criminal” aspect of the law. Civil cases are often focused on resolving disputes and providing compensation to an injured party. A criminal case is typically a legal dispute between the state and an individual, with punishment as the primary focus.
